1. How much configuration of the OptimalEdge device must be done on site? - Top
None. All configuration information is created using the OptimalHub device at the datacenter. This allows the OptimalEdge devices to be ?plug and play? on site, requiring no technical expertise for installation.
2. How can I tell if I have a VPN tunnel? - Top
First open a DOS prompt and try to ping your application server. Type ?ping? and then the private IP address of the application server (e.g. ping 192.168.1.1) If you are able to ping the private IP address, then the VPN tunnel is up and you should contact your application server administrator. If you are not able to ping the private IP address of the server, contact your network administrator or your broadband service provider as your service may be down.
3. I can ping my application servers through the tunnel, but I can?t access the applications. What?s wrong? - Top
You may not have the proper return routes in your datacenter core router (these routes tell the application server how to get back through the VPN tunnel to the private network at the remote site). Please confirm with your network administrator that you have the proper routes in place.
4. My broadband connection has been going up and down. My service provider is stating that my broadband service is currently up, but I still can?t see my applications. What do I do? - Top
Power down both the DSL/cable modem and the End II End OptimalEdge device. Wait 3 minutes. Power up the DSL/cable modem first. Wait another 3 minutes for the modem to sync up with the network. Power up the End II End OptimalEdge device. Wait till you get audio confirmation that the device is up and running (4 beeps). Try connecting again.
5. Does the End II End device ever interfere with the normal operations of the cable/DSL modem? - Top
No. Problems with a cable or DSL modem do not result from any conflict with the End II End Optimal device.
6. What kind of cables do I need to connect the OptimalEdge device? - Top
To connect to your LAN switch, Standard Category 5 ethernet cables are needed. To connect to your cable, dsl or satellite modem, you will also use Standard Category 5 ethernet cables (NOTE: some satellite providers may require a cross over cable for this connection. Please check with your provider to confirm).
7. Do I need to statically address my PCs and workstations on my remote site LAN? - Top
No. All End II End Optimal products are all capable of providing DHCP addressing for your network. Refer to the End II End SUM User Guide for more information on DHCP.
